Flake King 300

This 300 Fat Boy from Rick’s Motorcycles says it all, as the already fat Softail has been given a 300 tire, but the bike was naturally also kitted out with plenty of fine parts and components from the custom bike workshop in Baden-Baden. True to the motto “something of everything” and “only the best”, a stunning custom bike was created, which can doubtlessly be called “typical Rick’s”.

What exactly is “typical Rick’s”? Perfection down to the smallest details and balanced lines are the hallmarks, as well as well thought-out technical detail solutions. Wide tire conversions were a long time thought of as unfeasible, and in the past several wild solutions were offered to try and squeeze the fat tire into the rear. But let’s leave it at that and concentrate on the worldwide only solution with which the tire can be centered in the middle of the bike and therefore guarantees maximum rideability. Rick’s trick is, however, not as easy as appears to be the case at first sight. The biggest problem is to lead the belt drive past the clearly wider tire. Without primary or tire relocation, this is not possible. If, however, you have two belts instead of just one, insert an intermediate shaft with which the second belt can be located to the outside, then almost any tire width can be accommodated. For this reason, Rick’s has developed a completely new swingarm kit which is exchanged for the stock swingarm. This kit is available for Twin Cam Softails as well as for all new Milwaukee-Eight Softail models.

The 3-piece screwed together wheels are in Rick’s parts program known as “Freestyle”. For the 300 at the rear a 10.5 x 18 and for the front a 4.5 x 18 inch wheel was chosen. These XXL dimensions can, of course, no longer be covered by the stock fenders. The rear fender is worth more than a quick look because it is handmade at Rick’s from steel. On this one an additional cover was integrated with which the frame tubes below the seat are covered. In addition, an insert from the fender to the seat surface ensures an even more harmonious line.

The tank especially has a considerable influence on the line of the bike, and Rick’s has considerably elongated the stock tank, which now spans in a soft bow over the cylinders and gives the bike a flowing shape. The front fender is also Made by Rick’s.

The accessories are also very important and deserve to be mentioned as well. The adjustable exhaust system is by KessTech and ensures a great sound. Rick’s air filter is called “Spoke”. A new filter and a new exhaust also mean new mapping in order to prepare the right fuel mixture. Thanks to a modern Dynojet test bench this can be done in-house at Rick’s.

Rick’s grips and Rick’s adjustable brake and clutch levers are also a must on this bike. The small flat bar handlebar by Rick’s was fixed in Rick’s risers. The optimal sitting position is achieved with the foot controls, also a Rick’s product. The only thing missing are the indicators, which are also this time Kellermann products. The small light units have an ECE number and can be used legally on the road. At the rear, the brake and rear light were integrated into the tiny housing.
