Slim at the front, “Baroque” at the rear!

The full package from Rick’s for Harley’s 110 ci power monster!

It has been known for a long time: if you want to find that special kick in the Harley-Davidson model program, you find it often among the models which have been kitted out with parts from the Screamin’Eagle parts and accessories program. The components are all derived from many years of racing experience which official Harley dealers and their customers have been gaining on the drag strips, because in the USA what counts are ‘pull-through from the bottom’ and acceleration.

Speed limits on public roads are mostly limited to 70 or 80 mph – in Germany that’s where the fun on the motorway starts! After long test periods in limited CVO special models, the 110 ci Twin Cam was used in several models – also as an option for some Touring and Softails series models. The excellent power performance of the Twin Cam made it one of the most popular models in the Harley-Davidson model range.

When the first Softail “Slim” was available to ride at Rick’s Day 2015 as a demo ride, the test riders were queuing, and the “Slim” even had to be taken out of the hourly demo ride routine so that riders could enjoy it the whole day during a 10 minute ride on a shorter stretch of road. The result: more beaming faces and more customer orders for the power package!

But it is normal that many of Rick’s customers are having their bike tailor-made…from the “metal cutter” of course! In this case the 2016 “Slim” was given an almost complete chassis and optical make-over. Whereas the stock bike has a more Bobber or Cruiser look – footboards, Fat Boy fork, short-cut fender and fat tires at front and rear – Rick’s bike makes no compromises: it is a radical custom! It starts with Rick’s “Good Guys” fork, a set of “Seven Sins” design wheels, and doesn’t even end with Rick’s 300 Fat Ass kit. Frame and engine stayed almost stock, but Rick’s metal workshop added more sheet metal to this custom bike: stretch, front fender and rear, all beaten from full metal! The conversion to the “Baroque” 300 wide tire at the rear was done with Rick’s “Trick’n’Roll” kit, which via an intermediate shaft situated in the centre of the swingarm transports power to the rear wheel. A technically elaborate solution, but by now at Rick’s an established standard.

The “Good Guys” front wheel fork, in this case with Rick’s own 6-piston brake caliper, slims the front down, also aided by the V-Rod headlamp. Because of the larger wheel diameter the fork is mounted in a 4 inch shortened version. At the rear a Legend suspension system ensures riding comfort and an unrivalled low sitting position, and the “Drive Side” brake system ensures a good view of the huge rear tire.
The motor was equipped with a Rick’s “Good Guys” air filter, matching the wheels, and a Kess-Tech system deals with the exhaust fumes with the rider’s choice of more or less sound. The power package was tuned on the test bench with the H-D motor tuner and really goes a treat now!

The list of Rick’s accessories, from the foot controls to the adjustable handlebars, really emphasize that this is a Rick’s custom bike of a special kind. More is almost not possible, but honestly, do you need more?
