Sportster Bobber “Omega”
The stock Sportster 48 is already a real delicacy, but still not a typical Bobber with an oscillating rear fender and a solo seat. Rick’s Motorcycles has developed a conversion kit with which the Sportster models can easily be converted into a Bobber.
There are not many manufacturers who offer a complete kit for Sportster Bobbers. This is not because of a lack of demand, but because construction of such a kit is more than difficult. In contrast to the Softail models, the dampers on the Sporty are located outside, to the right and the left of the rear wheel. The OE position of the spring elements was, however, not be changed but it should be possible to mount the new fender and the holder with relatively little effort. It took a while, but Rick’s team also overcame this hurdle.
If the rear stock fender and the OE seat is taken off, the problem is that the frame is open. For this problem Rick’s offers a frame cover that also accepts the seat, onto which most aftermarket seats will fit. But Bobber also means an upright sitting position. For this reason a handlebar was used which has the shape of an omega sign turned by 180 degrees, which explains the name of the bike.
When selecting the accessories, care was taken to keep the conversion costs relatively low. A side license plate holder is almost standard on a custom bike, but on a Bobber unavoidable due to its build. Here a TÜV approved holder from Rick’s program is being used. The grips are also from Rick’s, as are the foot controls, which fit onto the stock location. The front fender was also exchanged for a fender from Rick’s.
