Next Continental GT
Since 1990, the Harley-Davidson „Fat Boy“ models have been a popular base for many custombike projects in many different styles. As it has happened before, the Rick’s team has „hit the bull’s eye“ with their „Continental GT“ custom project – which is why this great ride did not have to wait long for an enthusiastic buyer. This certainly was an argument for the Baden-Baden based customizing specialists to repeat this success.
Even for Rick’s, it is rare to build a bike almost identical – especially in such a short succession. Especially since Rick’s Motorcycles customizing options are so versatile – and clients usually desperately want „something different“. Well, if you take a closer look at this modified „Fat Boy“, you will notice that it differs from the first and original version in one essential point: The exhaust system. In this case, a complete „adjustable sound“ system from Kess Tech is used. Both mufflers are electronically adjustable – of course with full EC type approval, thus street-legal all over Europe.The sophisticated sound management system always controls the position of the flaps so that the driver always is in compliance with the law and can choose his sound optionally.
As visible, the flow-optimised Rick’s Performance air filter has been fitted – also carefully synchronized: A new exhaust and/or air filter always requires that the mapping has to be re-adjusted accordingly. Rick’s Motorcycles offers an in-house modern performance test bench and the necessary know-how to adapt the engine control to the new components. Another factor has become more important with the increased demand for reduced and controlled emissions: If the oxygen supply for the combustion process and the discharge of the exhaust gases change, the mapping has to be adjusted accordingly, which also is performed at Rick’s test bench.
As one might suspect, all custom parts were taken from the Rick’s parts cataloge – and in this case are identical to the first bike built to these specifications. Fender kits of this type are available from Rick’s for almost all Softail models. Rick’s Motorcycles also offers the fender options for the front wheel – for almost all Harley-models. Rick’s pegs, both at the foot controls as well as passenger pegs, are equipped with rubber O-rings, offering superb grip, preventing shoes and boots from slipping off. Rubberised grips, combined with Rick’s adjustable brake and clutch levers, provide maximum comfort for hands and great ridability. Rick’s handlebars and risers optimize the rider’s seating position. This is a bike to be ridden, no doubt about that!
The sidemount license plate bracket was developed by the Rick’s team as a kit for stylish and solid side mount relocation of the license plate – and is available for license plates in german/austrian/swiss plate sizes. Rick’s cool stainless steel belt cover replaces the original plastic-made cover. Finally, only the turn signals remain to be mentioned: Kellermann stylish LED-powered products were used for both the front and the rear. While the front indicators are fixed to the mirror screw using Rick’s Motorcycles adapters, the three-in-one version is installed directly to the struts at the rear end. And do the job perfectly! All Kellermann LED signals feature the ECE approval mark and can therefore be used legally on the road. On a very cool and clean ride!
